Durable Decking for Your Home

Enhance your outdoor space with decking built to last. Whether you want a low-maintenance composite deck or a warm, natural timber finish, we deliver professional decking installation in Edinburgh and outdoor home improvements across Scotland that combine durability, safety and great design.

Why choose durable decking?

A well-designed deck extends living space, boosts curb appeal and adds measurable value to your property. Choosing durable materials and a competent installer means your deck will resist Scotland’s weather — rain, frost and UV — while staying safe and comfortable to use year-round.

Key benefits

  • Low maintenance (especially with composite decking)
  • Long lifespan with correct installation and ventilation
  • Improved outdoor usability and property value
  • Customisable styles, colours and finishes to suit any garden

Materials we offer

Composite decking

  • Made from wood fibre and recycled plastic.
  • Extremely low maintenance — no sanding or staining.
  • Good slip resistance, consistent colour and warping resistance.

Traditional timber decking (hardwood or pressure-treated softwood)

  • Natural appearance and warmth.
  • Can be sanded and resealed to refresh its look.
  • Requires more maintenance (cleaning, staining/oiling) but can last decades if cared for.

We advise material choice based on exposure (sun/shade), budget, desired look and long-term maintenance willingness.

Our proven installation process (what to expect)

We follow a structured, safety-first process so every project runs smoothly and produces predictable, long-lasting results.

1. Site survey & design brief

We visit your property (Edinburgh or elsewhere in Scotland) to measure, assess ground conditions, discuss access, and confirm usage patterns (barbecue area, seating, planters, hot tub, etc.). From this we create a tailored design and quote.

2. Ground preparation & drainage

Good decks start below the surface. We clear vegetation, regrade or lay a sub-base where needed, and ensure effective drainage so water won’t pool beneath the deck — preventing rot and timber decay.

3. Subframe / joist installation

We set a robust subframe on adjustable pedestals or concrete pads depending on the site. Proper joist spacing, ventilation gaps and correct orientation are essential — they stop moisture buildup and stabilise the decking boards.

4. Deck board fitting & fixing

Boards are fixed with corrosion-resistant fasteners or hidden-clip systems (for a clean finish). We allow manufacturer-recommended expansion gaps and use edge trims and fascias for a finished look. If installing a balustrade or steps, we integrate them at this stage.

5. Finishing touches

We fit skirting, apply manufacturer-approved sealants for timber (if required), fit non-slip nosing where necessary and carry out a full site tidy. Lighting, integrated seating, planter boxes or pergolas can be added per the design.

6. Handover & maintenance guidance

You get a thorough handover, including care instructions, recommended cleaning products and warranty details. We explain seasonal checks and how to keep your deck looking its best for years.

Safety & longevity — what we pay attention to

  • Correct joist spacing and ventilation to avoid trapped moisture
  • Marine-grade or hot-dip galvanised fixings in exposed locations
  • Proper fall and drainage to protect foundations and nearby structures
  • Non-slip finishes and safe balustrade heights to meet regulations

Maintenance — short checklist

  • Composite: annual sweep and occasional wash with soapy water
  • Timber: clean twice a year; reseal or oil every 2–4 years depending on exposure
  • Check fixings and balustrades annually; clean debris from gaps to maintain airflow
